Todd Stone, AIA, NCARB
Todd is the principal architect at Stone Group. Despite growing up in Sioux Falls and Brandon, he spent his summers in Northern Minnesota with his Dad, often with a hammer in his hand. His grandfather, father and uncles were all contractors who persuaded Todd to pursue a career in engineering. But it was his grandfather, Warren, who originally put the architect bug in his ear as an 8th grader after meeting with an architect on a job site. “My father and grandfather were a huge influence on me and I looked up to them in many ways.” Todd says. “I owe all of my success to my family. They have always been my biggest supporters.” When not creating amazing spaces, Todd likes to spend his time outdoors with his family. Fishing, hunting, camping and watching the Minnesota Vikings are just a few of his hobbies. Todd has recently retired from the Army Reserves with over 23 years as a Combat Engineer, Construction Supervisor and Military Instructor. “Architecture is not just about putting up or remodeling buildings; it’s about the process, the spaces and the goals of the people who occupy those buildings. I have a passion for helping people and I want them to be passionate about the process as well.”
TJ Olson, AIA
TJ is a Project Designer at Stone Group. A Sioux Falls native and Lincoln High School graduate, TJ went on to study chemistry at Augustana College. “I always envisioned myself as a doctor or scientist, but in the back of my mind I had an interest in designing and creating.” He quickly switched majors and received a degree in Art & Design before achieving his graduate degree in Architecture. “I think I have a unique perspective from both analytical and designer viewpoints. When working with owners and users, I see their needs and desires. With that, I am able to blend the analytical and creative to find clients the best solution.” Continuously growing his knowledge of the latest technology, TJ is able to offer clients an integrated design delivery. “I enjoy interpreting clients’ wishes and representing them architecturally.” “Architecture is a story; the relationship between the characters, the evolution of problem-solving which leads to final design solution. In the end, you use those relationships and knowledge gained to improve upon the next story.”

That pushed Justin into the field of architecture. In high school, Justin took some base drafting classes. He competed in SkillsUSA, where he placed 1st statewide in Architectural Drafting (2012) and Principles of Engineering and Design (2013) and also placed 3rd nationally in the Principles of Engineering and Design competition. “I love to know how things work; how they are made, their function; the details about them fascinate me.” Justin currently resides in Sioux Falls.
