The NDSU Living/Learning Center combines student preference for apartment style housing with NDSU’s goal of enriching the university experience by integration of campus housing and learning. The design incorporates programming elements defined by student focus groups and Residence Life Staff. It responds to students’ desires for more private living environments by providing 70 studios and 24 four-bedroom apartments. Classrooms are provided on the first floor to promote the “Living and Learning” concept. Student interaction is encouraged by lounge and gathering spaces on the first through fourth floors. The LLC was designed to have a commanding presence on its site which was selected to initiate development on the western edge of campus and fulfill the students’ desires to be near the Wellness Center.
