INTERIOR DESIGNER

 

As an Interior Designer, you and the Principal Architect are responsible for project performance and team communication.  The Interior Designer should be capable of managing the interiors portions of multiple projects during all phases of a project until completion. You will direct employees and consultants at all levels to ensure that proper steps and procedures are taken, and work is completed as planned, budgeted, scheduled in conformance with design intent.  You will be responsible for leading interiors teams with the clear goal of providing the highest possible quality of service and client satisfaction along with quality design. You will assist as the backup to the Project Manager on assigned projects and communicate to Client in the absence of the Project Manager. You will work in a collaborative environment with multiple offices through digital means.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

​​

  • Plan, design, and furnish interiors of commercial, healthcare, municipal, recreation/wellness, multifamily housing, or industrial buildings. Formulate designs which are practical, aesthetic, and accomplish intended purposes, such as raising productivity, selling merchandise, or improving lifestyle. May specialize in a particular field, style, or phase of interior design.

  • Estimate material requirements and costs, and present design to client for approval with the rest of the team.

  • Confer with Client to determine factors affecting planning interior environments, such as budget, design preferences, and purpose and function.

  • Advise Client on interior design factors such as space planning, layout, utilization of furnishings or equipment, and finish selections.

  • Coordinate with Architects, Project Managers, and Consultants.

  • Select or design furnishings, artwork, and accessories when included in scope of work.

  • Render design ideas in form of paste-ups, drawings, or pictures.

  • Assist with Schematic Design, Design Development & Construction Drawings, Specifications, and Construction Administration.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Strong knowledge of design, trends, construction methodology, material application, and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness. 

  • Advanced knowledge of architectural building systems preferred.

  • Thorough understanding of project work plans, schedules, staffing, and budgets.

  • Proficiency is Autodesk Revit.

  • Advanced knowledge of sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines preferred.   

  • Advanced hand drafting skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

  • Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, SketchUp, and InDesign graphic software preferred.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work in team environment.

  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in interior design or architecture or equivalent in education or experience required.  Master’s degree preferred. 

  • 5 years’ experience in interiors/architectural practice with management experience in all phases of projects through post-occupancy preferred.

  • Preferred experience with Veterans Affairs, Army Corps of Engineers, healthcare, or other commercial clients.

  • Registration as an Interior Designer in a US state and/or jurisdiction recognized by CIDQ preferred.

  • LEED credential required within 12 months of employment.

  • Ability to pay attention to detail.

  • Ability to stay calm under pressure.

  • Methodical and thorough approach to work.

  • Organized and effective at multitasking and prioritization.

  • A great team player with a desire to show initiative
