SIOUXLAND FREEDOM PARK

Siouxland Freedom Park hosts the only half-scale replica wall of the original Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C. The original is made of two adjoining walls, each just over 246 feet long. This replica in South Sioux City, Nebraska is a single wall and was created from the same granite as the original, quarried in India, and is 250 feet long. The breathtaking wall is a place to heal, reflect and honor those lost in the war.

The wall includes the names of 58,272 fallen Veterans from the Vietnam War, 99 of which were soldiers from the Siouxland area (the tri-state area of northwest Iowa, northeast Nebraska and southeast South Dakota). Towering over the wall is a 60’x30’ flag of Old Glory, waving proudly, 150 feet above the ground.

In October of 2023, Siouxland Freedom Park unveiled a Korean War Veterans Memorial. Again, drawing inspiration from the national monument, the memorial consists of nineteen unique, life-size, two dimensional stainless steel figures marching in platoon formation. It is impossible to not be affected by the imagery of the soldiers seemingly plodding through the rice paddies of Korea as they stand before you. Often referred to as the “Forgotten War,” such a provoking memorial ensures that the Veterans who served in Korea are remembered.
