SOUTH DAKOTA VETERANS CEMETERY
This new memorial and cemetery located on the northeast side of Sioux Falls is a patriotic gem. Officially opened on May 31, 2021, the SD Veterans Cemetery is the first Veterans’ cemetery in the state that was federally funded while being owned and operated by the State of South Dakota.
Groundbreaking began in 2019 on this 60-acre cemetery. It serves and honors all Veterans across the United States. This beautiful, open, hilly setting just north of I-90 serves as a respectful final resting place for up to 28,000 Veterans and their immediate family member burials.
This cemetery was made possible by land donated to the South Dakota Department of Veterans Affairs by the City of Sioux Falls and services provided by the National Cemetery Administration. The federal government contributed $6M to the project, and the State of South Dakota contributed $600K.
