Hospers Veterans Memorial Park
Three black granite tablets are arranged in a semicircle, each engraved with the names of veterans from the Hospers area. An asterisk marks those who lost their lives in service. The center tablet, slightly taller than the others, bears the name of the memorial at the top along with the seals of the military branches and the dedication: “Dedicated to all veterans who through service and sacrifice have helped preserve our freedom.”
A viewing bench sits in front of the tablets, while three flagpoles stand behind them, displaying the American flag in the center, flanked by the Iowa state flag and the American Legion flag.
The memorial was installed on May 26, 1997, through the efforts of Hospers American Legion Post #423. It honors veterans who served in multiple conflicts, including World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Lebanon/Grenada, Panama, and the Persian Gulf, as well as other periods of service.
