Central Nebraska Veterans Memorial
Curved into a semi-circle are multiple flags and eight 16-foot-tall stone monuments displaying the seals of each service branch. The memorial honors all men and women who served, fought and died for our country.
Alongside these monuments are 13, eight-foot-tall granite pillars that provide the history and educational information on The Civil War, Spanish-American War, WWI, WWII in Europe, WWII in the Pacific, the Cold War and wars in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Gulf, Panama and Granada. Each pillar displays detailed images of war scenes etched into the metal plates. Lining the walkway, engraved pavers display soldier’s names.
Designed for Veterans by Veterans this $2M memorial was coordinated in partnership with the American Legion Post 52, the City of Kearney and Central Nebraska Veterans Memorial Committee. The concept of this memorial began in 2010, and it was dedicated in 2021 after three years of construction. A large wall lists the donor levels of people or businesses that contributed to this large project. This two-acre memorial is located on the campus of the Central Nebraska Veterans Home.
