DELL RAPIDS VETERANS MEMORIAL PARK
Just past the arch entrance of this memorial are five quartz rocks holding large, brass, service seals. This memorial honors Veterans and their families of all wars. What makes this memorial unique is the pink-like quartz used as monuments throughout the park. Quartz slabs stand strong holding bronze statues of a soldier during the Revolutionary War, a Soldier holding the flag during the Civil War, a WWI Veteran in combat with his gun and grenade in hand, a statue of a Vietnam soldier with one leg partially amputated being supported by a solo crutch and a bald eagle perched on a globe of the earth to honor Veterans that were in the Gulf War. The most recent sculpture, added in 2017, depicts a Korean War soldier with his gun standing guard during warfare. Sponsored by the American Legion Post #65, supporters are currently working on getting a statue to represent the Veterans of WWII.
Trees and landscaping surround the park, and engraved bricks make up the memorial’s base with three flags flying high above the center. Also placed on blocks of quartz are several bronze monuments; an iconic statue of the boots, bayonette, helmet and dogtags, Soldier’s Monument, Fallen Soldier monument and Blue Star Memorial. A brick and quartz pillar hold photos of Iwo Jima, Pearl Harbor, D-Day in Normandy, Native American Code Talkers, the Atomic Bomb and combat action in air, on land and at sea.
