In 2005, a Veterans memorial was built in Missouri Valley that featured three granite pillars that stand at the heart of the memorial. The middle pillar has the American flag and POW/MIA symbol engraved with the phrase “In honor of all those who served this great nation in war and peace time.” The right and left pillars display the Armed Forces’ seals. Engraved bricks surround the pillars and several flags fly high to honor all branches of the military and the POW/MIA Veterans.

This city dedicated its’ Freedom Rock on Sept 11, 2021, twenty years after the 9/11 attack on America. This is one of 99 painted patriotic rocks in the state, painted by artist Ray “Bubba” Sorenson II. The paintings include Zoe Leonard, Dr. Hans Hansen of the Army Medical Department and a Distinguished Service Cross Recipient in Vietnam.
