BIG LOST MEADERY

Completed in 2025, this project brings together two distinct businesses—The Big Lost Meadery and The Ranch and Roost—under one shared roof, creating a dynamic new destination along Lake Lorraine. This marks the second location for the Meadery and restaurant combo, with the first in Gillette, Wyoming, and we are proud to welcome this business to South Dakota!

The taproom and indoor seating are bathed in natural light and offer unobstructed views of the lake, creating a serene backdrop for enjoying mead and take-out chicken. Outdoors, a balcony and a lower-level patio provide seamless access to the lake, enhancing the connection between the building and its natural surroundings.

A key challenge was visually differentiating the two businesses while maintaining harmony in the shared space. We achieved this through a deliberate combination of materials and colors: copper-toned steel panels, weathered brick, and dark wood define the Meadery, while the Ranch and Roost is distinguished by a bright red façade and vibrant orange branding. This careful contrast in materiality and color delivers the distinction the clients envisioned, creating a memorable and engaging experience for visitors.
